Firefall: Next milestone announced!

Yesterday, during Firefall Live, the team announced the date for the next milestone patch! The next milestone is scheduled to bring the separation of PvE and PvP, the rework of the crafting system, and a rework of the experience tree. Read on to see the full list of changes and what this means to players.

First of all, you have time before these changes are implemented. The current scheduled date (Note: that means it may change) is March 22nd. The most important part about that date is that it's the first day of PAX East as well. The team is planning on patching everything so that people at PAX will be able to play the new version as well.

Now, for the changes... There is going to be a total rework of all materials, but that doesn't mean you're losing everything. The team at Red 5 has come up with a unique reward for players called Beta Crystite. What's going to happen is all Crystite you currently have will be immediately transformed into Beta Crystite, there will also be recipes at the molecular printers to convert individual materials into Beta Crystite. As of the patch date, all old materials (Quartzite, Coralite, etc...) will no longer be usable in any recipes except for the conversion into Beta Crystite. As for the Beta Crystite itself, we don't know what exactly it will be used for. The team has hinted that it will be usable to create some sort of temporary consumables or other types of rewards, but it isn't set in stone yet.

So, here's the bad news. All modules you have will be wiped. Because of the total rework of the crafting system they need to remove old items from the game. But, there's good news in there as well, all call-downs you have created will be saved. So your thumpers, ammo and health powerups, and everything else, will stay in game.

This patch will also bring about a full experience reset. Because the experience trees are changing, all experience you have will be refunded to you to be re-spent in the new tree.

However, the most important bit of information hidden in there is that the tier system is being completely removed. There will be a totally new system for unlocking new battleframes, BUT, all frames you have unlocked prior to the patch will stay unlocked for you. This means that if you want to have a head start once the patch hits you should take some time between now and then to unlock all of the T2 frames.

TL;DR:

  • Crystite turns into Beta Crystite
  • Hybrid Crystite will have a recipe to convert into Beta Crystite
  • Hybrid Crystite won't have any other uses
  • All built modules will be wiped
  • All call-downs will be unaffected
  • All earned experience will be refunded
  • All unlocked frames will stay unlocked
So if you want to make the most of your time between now and the patch, you should continue mining for materials and Crystite, don't build any new modules for your frames, and try to unlock all of the T2 frames.
